Discouraging Leadership from Estimating the work on behalf of the Agile Team

The Agile teams is responsible for the co-definition, co-creation and co-support of their objectives. For an Agile team to be comfortable and feel empowered, leadership must provide a clear set of objectives and allow the Agile Team to create its own delivery schedule. When Agile Team are left to self-determine the key milestones, we see a significant increase in levels of motivation and commitment as a direct result of the increased sense of empowerment. Agile team based estimates are always more accurate than traditional methods, since the Agile team consists of representation from all the major disciplines that make-up the value chain, including analysis, design, build, test and support. The principles message is, “those with the in-depth understanding of how to bring the objectives to life are best suited to determine estimate the effort required.
