Agile Transformation Schedule & Milestones

Response

Should an organisation choose to adopt the Monetical Agile Transformation Blueprint they already have the main activities to define an Agile transformation schedule and the ability to identify a series of milestones. As we have described in related advice, the four core organisational changes that make-up the Agile Transformation schedule are:

  • Organisational Model (covering people & culture)

  • Operating Model (covering ways of working)

  • Facilities & Technology (covering infrastructure & equipment)

  • Governance & Practices (covering quality assurance & standards)

Once a dedicated Agile Transformation Team has been establishing, which typically takes around 6 weeks with representation from across the organisations, a transformation schedule can be produce, which is made-up of 4 clearly defined stages.

Stage 1. Introducing and tailoring your organisational blueprint to meet the needs of your individual business units will require approximately 4 months of investment.

Stage 2 - Team Design. Before the organisation should consider launching its first full-fledged Agile team, it should complete several capability assessments to ensure the program starts with a clear definition of the current organisation’s capability.

Stage 3 - Team Mobilisation. An experienced Agile Coach should require approx 90 to 100 days to complete the mobilisation of a newly formed Agile team. At the end of the mobilisation period the Agile team should be demonstrating a series of behaviour traits, for example, self-organising, have adopted all of the core Agile ceremonies and met a small number of business goals. One experienced Agile Coach should be able to support 2 or 3 newly formed Agile Teams at the same time.

Stage 4 - Maintaining a Team’s Capability in response to an ever-changing environment falls to the responsibility of the Agile Coaching Centre of Excellence. The COE must continue to refine the Agile Transformation Blueprint and oversee its adoption.
