Organisational Standard Information Model
Response
An Organisational Standard Information Model is defined to ensure business goals are translated in a consistent manner into individual user stories there by reducing complexity and enabling individual Agile Team to create value as a series of short focused cycles.
The information model consists of a hierarchy that includes Initiatives, Portfolios, Epics and Features to ensuring alignment across multiple portfolios down to individual Agile teams.
The information model also ensures a consistent definition and performance management approach is taken, e.g. key performance indicators on a quarterly, monthly or iterative basis.
To successfully define an organisational-wide information model the organisation must consider the following guidelines:
- Features are sized using a T-shirt sizing technique (xxS, xS, S, M, L, xL xxL)
- User Stories are sized using a Points sizing technique (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 40, 100)
Requirements Information Model
When considering the adoption of an organisational wide Information Model, we recommend Agile Teams also consider the following guidelines:
Define a Multi-value (Minimum) Release Strategy
Data Driven Objective and Key Results Product Backlog Prioritisation Mechanism
Segmentation Based Customer Profiling Technique
Adopting a Lean Quarterly Budgeting and Business Review Cycle (QBR)
