Effective Daily Stand-up Ceremony Execution

Response

Effective daily stand-up ceremonies require:

  • the agile tea, to meet daily at the same location and time.

  • The Product Owner and all the agile team members are attending 100% of the time.

  • Each member of the agile team takes just a few minutes to give an update on their current tasks, which appear on the activity board and give an indication of what they plan to work on next.

  • Every user story with a status of Work in Progress has an owner assigned who is a member of the agile team.

  • Where work is being carried out by others, the user story should have an owner who is acting as the representative.

  • Each member os the agile team informs everyone of tasks that are blocked.

  • The Scrum Master acknowledges they'll work (offline) with the owner of any blocked tasks.

  • No member of the agile team is adding new activities to the Sprint or Kanban activity board

  • The Scrum Master ensures they have all the information they require to create the necessary performance reports, for example a down down chart.

  • The Scrum Master ensures all discussions are focused on the tasks on the activity board and quickly parks discussions on other topics.

  • Everyone is responsible for ensuring the activity board is updated and where necessary indicates when team members are absent (e.g. on holiday).

  • An objective is used to visually indicate who's turn it is to provide an update (i.e. the one person talking).
